Breathable Roof Lining

Breathable dust lining membrane used to eliminate any dust dirt or moisture from entering your loft space our breathable roofing membrane can be installed directly into the either the internal or external roof slopes shielding both insulation and roof structure.

Why breather membranes are required. The roof is pitched and covered with concrete tiles laid over a lining. If the roof covering ie tiles slates are in poor condition then its best to strip the lot of fit new breathable felt battens and retile. It s effective in stopping dust from entering whilst letting moisture escape from the inside.

Our breathable membrane is also vital for keeping the dust and dirt out and for letting the clean fresh air in. The roof covering appears to be in a serviceable condition for its age and type. It also sticks all the slate or tiles together so they cannot be maintained or repaired. Felt was only intended as a secondary defence against wind driven snow rain etc if the tiles are in good condition there is a method called torching which is back pointing underneath with a lime mortar mix with horse hair added.

The first option the breathable membrane. Some defects were noted including repointing the ridge tiles. Breathable membranes or breather membranes have been designed to improve ventilation and reduce condensation build up within the roof space as well as ensuring insulation remains effective. Breathable roof membranes are generally installed on the cold side of insulation in the roof structure ie the side closest to the external area.

This involves lining the inside of the roof with a breathable membrane. Moisture often passes into the roof space as vapour and then condenses when it reaches a cool surface. Sprayfoam on the roof is the kiss of death to your roof it creates a totally sealed environment around the laths that hold the slate or tile on and they start to rot immediately because so much moisture is trapped by the foam. For use in tiled slated or metal roof systems.

Vapour permeable breathable membrane allows your roof to breathe meaning you won t need traditional ventilation. We ll install x m2 of loft lining to the rafters in your loft. Breathable membrane does allow water vapour to escape from the roof space but if other circumstances are working against it then it may not be sufficient on its own to prevent condensation. This is installed across the face of the roof rafters throughout the entire loft space.
