First you need to decide are you going to build the side wall on top of the oven floor or around it.
Needless to say they did not do their research and neglected to use any insulation.

Building on top is the simple solution but building around gives you better insulation.
Make sure the gaps between the stones are no larger than 1 2 inches otherwise the pizza oven won t have a neat look.
As for amounts of insulation i would say 2 of calsil under the oven is a bare minimum 3 to 4 is better but you will see diminishing results as you go beyond that.
